The Priesthood of Seth

Seth’s Appointment: Theology of Succession Genesis 4:25 – “ God has appointed me another seed instead of Abel .” The word “appointed” (שָׁת / shath) means to place, establish, or ordain. This is the first biblical instance of succession theology: priesthood is not random but divinely appointed. The death of Abel could have meant the end of priestly worship — but Seth was ordained as replacement → a shadow of the continuity of God’s priestly plan throughout history. ⮕ Theology: Seth represents God’s refusal to let priesthood die with one man. Whenever one priesthood fails, God raises another. Theology of Worship in Seth’s Line Genesis 4:26 – “Then men began to call upon the name of the LORD.” Hebrew: qara b’shem YHWH — “to proclaim, invoke, worship in the name of Yahweh.” Before Seth, Cain’s line was marked by rebellion, violence, and self-glory (city building, polygamy, vengeance). With Seth, humanity returns to prayer, sacrifice, covenant relationship. This is the origin of publi...

Priesthood of man - Abel

The story of Abel, the second son of Adam and Eve, is short yet deeply significant. Known as the first martyr, Abel also stands as the earliest model of priesthood in human history. His offering of the firstborn of his flock was accepted by God, establishing him as a righteous worshipper and priestly figure. Abel’s priesthood demonstrates faith, obedience, and sincerity in approaching God. Yet, it was not without its limitations. His blood, shed unjustly by his brother, cried out from the ground — not for mercy, but for justice. In this, Abel’s priesthood reveals both the strength and the shortcoming of humanity’s earliest form of priestly service. Abel's Priesthood in Worship 1. The Offering of the Firstborn Abel presented to God “the firstborn of his flock and their fat portions” (Genesis 4:4). His choice of the first and the best symbolized trust in God’s provision and honor toward His sovereignty. Unlike offerings given from surplus, Abel’s gift was costly, reflecting the heart...

Priesthood of Man - Cain

As we have found out that priesthood is the foundation of our relationship with God, we have to understand the various ways man has interacted with God through the ages. Our assurance of fellowship is as a result of the past interactions between God and man. There is an important need to learn about the history of any system whatsover. History helps understand the origin of something and how mankind dealt with situations in the past and that will help shape the future for better ways and even uphold the most effectual and consistent means of remedy to the problem involved.  This historic study of events gives a better understanding in various subjects of our lives from medical, politics, religion, sports etc. In this topic we want to enlighten ourselves with the way the men who performed the work of priesthood after Adam did ot and whether they succeeded. God had made Adam in His own image and likeness and the man, Adam, had the image of God until his fall. We discovered from the l...

Priesthood of the first man - Adam

It is quite notable from the study of priesthood across all cultures that priests acted as the ultimate authority. They were comsidered to carry the duty of kings and even prophets. Priests have taken up the mantle of speaking to God on behalf of communities. In the previous chapter we saw God being the first High Priest.  He took up the mandate of interceding for man to Himself. God Himself was the first to offer sacrifice for man's own sins. We see an element of great service when the sovereign and holy God goes down to the point of providing for what man needed for his peace. In this chapter we are studying who took up the mantle of priesthood and the first person in the history of man to be a priest. The first person to be entrusted with the priestly duty was Adam. We see in Gen 2:15-17 that God gave him the duty of total submission to God's command. Adam failed in his priestly duty because instead of drawing the whole creation to God he drove them away from God. Since he c...

ORIGIN OF PRIESTHOOD - God, the First High Priest

In our introduction to this series of priesthood we learnt that priests are those who could stand before God on behalf of men and stand before men to proclaim the oracles of God or to give God's instruction. They intercede for man before God. This work of priests is shown across various religions and denominations. The big question is how did man get to understand the essence of priesthood and who was the first priest in the history of the universe? From the biblical view we want to get down to the origin of this communication for without this communication the whole cosmos cannot come to harmony, hence we can't understand the priesthood because priesthood involves communication. There must be communication between the a people and God through the priest with a sacrifice. Without the priest there's no way the people can gain access to a Holy God. In Genesis we see Adam having a good relationship with God in His innocence before the fall. Adam had no need for any blood sacr...

In so many instances we have heard about this word Priest. Maybe you heard it in church, school or anywhere else. In this series we emark on elacudating the concept of priesthood and exposing the priesthood of Christ and of every Christian according to the biblical concepts. The goal of this series is to enable you understand Jesus' complete work of Priesthood and your duty and mandate as a priest. Lets go into the the message. Who/What is a Priest? This is a question most people ask themselves and they don't seem to get an appropriate answer for the same. We see from the bible many instances where people are mentioned as priests. From traditional lenses we see people still portrayed as priests. Different forms of religions have different kinds of priests. Whichever the culture one observes from, one evident thing is that the priest seems to invoke some kind of oracle or has an access directly to an unseen divine being according to that tradition. Priesthood is a sacred office...

LIVING OUT OUR SALVATION – Walking Worthy of the Call

Salvation is not just a past event or a future hope—it is a present reality. We are called not only to receive God’s grace but to live it out daily. The Christian life is not passive; it is a continual walk of faith, obedience, and witness, grounded in the salvation we've received. “ Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ …”—Philippians 1:27 To be saved is to be called into a new life—a life that reflects the One who saved us. 1. Walk in Gratitude The right response to salvation is thanksgiving. When we understand the magnitude of God’s mercy—rescuing us from sin, death, and judgment—our hearts overflow with praise. “ Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever .”—Psalm 107:1 Gratitude fuels worship, obedience, and service. We do not work to earn salvation—we live in response to it. 2. Walk in Obedience A life transformed by grace is marked by a desire to please God. Not out of fear of condemnation, but out of love and reverence for the...

ASSURANCE OF SALVATION – Confidence in Christ

Assurance of salvation is the confident knowledge that one truly belongs to Christ, has been saved by His grace, and will remain in Him until the day of glorification. It is not based on emotion, personal effort, or outward appearances, but on the unchanging promises of God, the finished work of Christ, and the ongoing witness of the Holy Spirit. 1. What is Assurance? Assurance is not the same as salvation—it is the awareness and certainty of it. A person may be saved and yet struggle with doubt, while another may be confident yet not truly born again. Biblical assurance rests on truth, not feelings. “ I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. ”—1 John 5:13 God wants His children to know they are saved—not guess, hope, or fear—but know. 2. The Foundation: God's Promises Our assurance does not come from ourselves—it comes from trusting what God has declared: “ Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word...

GLORIFICATION – The Final State of Salvation

Glorification is the final step in the believer’s salvation journey. It is the moment when all who are in Christ will be fully and finally conformed to His image—body, soul, and spirit. In glorification, believers are freed completely from the presence of sin, receive resurrected, immortal bodies, and enter into eternal fellowship with God in perfect holiness and joy. 1. What is Glorification? Glorification is the completion of salvation. If justification declares us righteous, and sanctification makes us increasingly righteous, then glorification perfects us in righteousness. It is the moment when our salvation is made fully visible and final—when we see Christ and become like Him. “ And those He justified, He also glorified .”—Romans 8:30 This verse assures us that glorification is not just a possibility—it is a guaranteed promise for every believer. 2. Freedom From the Presence of Sin In this life, believers are saved from sin’s penalty (justification) and its power (sanctification)...

SANCTIFICATION – Growing in Grace

Sanctification is the process by which believers are progressively transformed into the likeness of Christ after they have been justified and regenerated. It is a lifelong journey of growing in holiness, obedience, and spiritual maturity through the power of the Holy Spirit. 1. What is Sanctification? Sanctification means to be set apart for God’s purposes and made holy. While justification is a one-time legal declaration (we are declared righteous before God), sanctification is the ongoing spiritual transformation that follows —1 Thessalonians 4:3 Sanctification is God’s will for every believer—it is not optional or reserved for a few. Every Christian is called to grow in grace and Christlikeness. 2. Two Aspects: Positional and Progressive Positional Sanctification , At the moment of salvation, the believer is set apart in Christ—declared holy because of their union with Him (1 Corinthians 1:2). Progressive Sanctification , This is the daily, continuous growth in personal holiness. It...
